2009 AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN GUITAR TEACHING
The Registry of Guitar Tutors(RGT), presented its Guitar Tutor of the Year Award at its recent Annual Conference at Thames Valley University in London. The Award recognises the consistent achievements of the tutorâs students in the RGT guitar exams.
The winner was Graham Corbould, a guitar teacher from Bexleyheath, Kent. RGT Director, Tony Skinner, said: âThis award reflects Grahamâs consistently high standard of guitar teaching as shown by the repeated achievements of his students in the RGT examsâ.
Graham Corbould was awarded an engraved trophy and a cheque for ÂŁ500. Graham, who has been entering students for RGT exam since 1994, said, "Iâm honoured to receive this Award. The RGT exams provide a structure for teaching contemporary guitar and a yardstick by which to measure and plan progress. The RGT grades are not only for those with an academic need, most of my students play the guitar for their own enjoyment and passing grades adds to that sense. The age range of my last set of candidates was 10 to 62 years (the 62 year old being a life long 'strummer' who has now progressed to Grade 5).â
There were also four runner-up finalists, who each received an engraved plaque and a ÂŁ50 cash prize: Marc Galea from Malta, Dave Crawford from Wales, David Millar from Northern Ireland and Vic Hyland from Kent.
A trophy for Guitar School Of The Year was awarded to The Making Musicians Guitar School in Hastings. David Price, manager of the school, said: âWe are absolutely delighted to have been honoured with the âGuitar School of the Yearâ award. We have worked closely with the RGT since the schoolâs inception three years ago and there was never any doubt as to which exam board we would use as the whole ethos behind the school is to give out students the skills that would allow them learn any song they wanted to and to formulate their own lead solos, and preparing for the RGT exams helps our students achieve exactly these goals.â
